We’re excited to launch “Our Power, Our Future: Why Aotearoa Deserves a National Energy Strategy”. This report follows on from our groundbreaking Generating Scarcity report in 2022 looking into how Gentailers distribute billions in excess dividends, and our 2024 report diving into how Methanex, New Zealand’s biggest user of gas, is subsidised by taxpayers and keeps fossil fuels locked into the energy market.
Our current system is not fair to our communities, and we don’t have a clear strategic direction across the energy sector. We need a 30-year roadmap for energy transformation that puts people first – one that takes a cross-party approach to ensure stability beyond election cycles and delivers genuine benefits to all our communities.
