The UN climate talks—COP30, hosted by Brazil this year—could be a turning point in our fight for a liveable planet. In the past, these talks have led to some of the most significant global climate agreements. As the host of this year’s talks, the Brazilian COP30 President plays a key role in shaping the debate and its outcomes. 

The COP30 President, André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, could get governments to agree to end fossil fuels and drive a rapid expansion of renewable energy.

We are calling on the COP30 President to ensure the talks lead to real international cooperation for the climate. This means:

• Supercharging renewables in a fair way: 
• We need a tripling of renewables. Clean, renewable sources like wind and solar must replace fossil fuels by 2030. 
• Clean, renewable energy must be affordable, accessible to all and involve communities.
• Rich countries must step up — governments must raise enough money to help countries switch to clean energy. Rich countries should give grants, not loans, to help poorer ones make the transition.
• No more fossil fuels:
• We cannot have new oil, gas, or coal projects, especially in important ecosystems like the Amazon. 
• Cut fossil fuel production. Rich countries must go first and fastest.
• Indigenous Peoples have an equal seat at the table:
• Indigenous leaders and communities must have a strong voice at the climate conference. They should be embedded in the decision-making.
