Protect the Arctic from fossil gas drilling!

Is there no limit to their greed? The French oil giant TOTAL wants to drill for fossil gas in the pristine, fragile nature of the Arctic. And if that wasn’t bad enough - they want public money to finance this destructive plan!

A decision might be made at any moment but we can’t let this dirty deal happen in the shadows. With tens of thousands of us speaking up for the climate, nature and the people of the Arctic, we can shine a spotlight on TOTAL’s plans to drill in the Arctic now, and put the French government under international pressure to refuse the deal.

Sign this urgent petition to the French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ministers: “Refuse all financial support to TOTAL’s plan to drill in the Arctic!”

The fossil fuel giant TOTAL wants to drill for fossil gas in the Arctic and the French government is considering financially supporting their climate-wrecking plans [1].

The Arctic is already under massive pressure from a changing climate. Ice cover is thinning, winters are getting shorter and shorter and melting permafrost is leading to the release of huge amounts of methane - further worsening the crisis. If the deal between TOTAL and the French government goes ahead, it would accelerate the destruction of this already fragile ecosystem.

Instead of stopping this polluting mega-project, the French Government wants to support TOTAL with public money. They’re looking into giving the project financial guarantees worth 700 million euros through the Public Investment Bank (BPI). We cannot allow this to go ahead.

By supporting TOTAL’s fossil gas project in the Arctic, the French government is contributing to climate breakdown. We have to protect the Arctic from the greed of TOTAL and call on the government of France to withdraw their support from this dirty deal immediately.
