To Ian Kew and the board of the Darwin Festival,
We love the Darwin Festival in all its creativity, colour and diversity, but there’s something wrong. Having the name of fossil fuel company Santos brandished across the Festival brings shame to our event.
We call on you Mr Kew, and the board to cut ties with Santos and end the sponsorship contract.
Santos has plans to frack for gas across many remote communities in the NT, putting land, water, sacred sites and our climate at risk. By allowing Santos to sponsor this festival, you’re giving them the public support they need to push ahead with their dangerous drilling projects, in the face of the climate crisis.
You wouldn’t put a tobacco company logo on your event, same goes for a fossil fuel company that is expanding operations knowing full well the impact that will have on global warming and our future.
I stand with NT artists to kick Santos out of the Darwin Festival.
