Tell the COP31 Presidencies:
In November, Türkiye and Australia will host this year's UN Climate Talks (COP31). For two weeks, they'll steer the negotiations that decide how fast and how fairly the world moves off coal, oil and gas.
But both countries are among the very few industrialised nations with no deadline to stop burning coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel there is. And they're still expanding. Australia accounts for 56% of all the new coal mines planned worldwide. So far, their official COP31 plans and letters to governments haven't mentioned fossil fuels once.
Meanwhile, millions of people are paying for it, with soaring energy bills, catastrophic floods and deadly heatwaves. It’s only going to get worse if governments don’t end their toxic relationship with the fossil fuel industry soon.
The COP31 hosts must lead the world away from fossil fuels, but first they need to start at home. Add your name to tell Türkiye and Australia to:
To: Minister Murat Kurum (COP31 President, Türkiye) and Minister Chris Bowen (COP31 President of Negotiations, Australia)
