Tell Santander: Stop destroying the Amazon!

While the Brazilian government is selling off the Amazon Rainforest to fossil fuel companies, banks like Banco Santander are bankrolling them to further destroy the Amazon.

Without money, fossil fuel giants can’t drill. Sign the petition and tell Santander, stop destroying the Amazon.

UPDATE: Santander cut some financing to Eneva after public pressure – a step forward. But it still backs oil and gas expansion in the Amazon, so let's keep the pressure up!

Dear Banco Santander,

The Amazon rainforest is crucial to our fight against the climate crisis and the future of our planet by removing excess carbon dioxide and keeping our planet cool.

Instead of being the climate champion we need, Banco Santander continues to be one of the largest funders of oil and gas expansion in the Amazon.

In the 2021 press release1, you reassured the world that Santander is committed to safeguarding the Amazon Rainforest. Yet, your action speaks otherwise. By backing dirty oil drilling projects there, you are directly causing the climate crisis while increasing threats to Indigenous Peoples and local communities who live in the rainforest.

You have the power to stop this. Without Santander’s financial support, fossil fuel companies will have a hard time continuing their dirty projects.

Instead of funding oil and gas exploration that further pushes us into the climate crisis, you can fund just, community-owned renewable energy projects that bring energy access. We still have time to change course. So please, protect the Amazon and stop funding fossil fuel projects!
