If it is up to the European Union, the newest planes and ships will be on their green list, the Taxonomy. In doing this, they are encouraging pension funds and banks to put our money into a polluting, fossil-fuel-powered fleet.
This is greenwashing at the highest level.
Only real climate solutions belong on Europe’s green list.
Call on the European Commission to remove planes and ships from the green list 👇
Aeroplanes and cruise ships are extremely polluting. But if it is up to the European Union, the latest models would receive a green label. In doing this, they are encouraging pension funds and banks to invest our pensions and savings in a fossil-powered fleet.
It is important that Europe’s green list – called ‘the taxonomy’ – only includes truly fair and sustainable solutions. This list is intended to ensure that money is made available for climate solutions, such as wind and solar energy, heat pumps and high-speed trains. New aircraft and ships that will run on fossil fuels for decades to come are not a climate solution.
The aviation and shipping lobby has successfully played the EU – they have got themselves on the list. This will allow them to raise money cheaper and easier for their new polluting planes and (cruise) ships – all under the guise of sustainability. Making good use of pollution: this is greenwashing at the highest level. The EU is promoting growth in aviation and shipping, while this is actually destroying a viable future.
It's not too late yet. With a coalition of climate and legal organisations – CLAW, Dryade, Opportunity Green, Protect our Winters Austria and (350.org's sister organisation) Fossielvrij NL – and people throughout Europe, we are taking action. We call on the European Commission to reverse this absurd decision and remove new aircraft and ships from the green list.

Update 27 August 2024: Unfortunately, the European Commission does not want to change their policy. We are therefore filing a lawsuit at the European Court of Justice.
