All I Want for the Holidays is an Affordable BGE Bill

Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE), central Maryland’s largest gas and electric utility, is proposing a $602.4 million rate hike over the next three years that will increase customers’ annual gas and electric bills by an average of $810 by 2026.

This outrageous rate hike is driven by the utility’s plans to spend $1.8 billion on new fossil gas infrastructure, flouting the state’s climate goals.

Maryland’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is expected to vote on BGE’s proposal in mid-December. Tell the PSC and BGE all you want for the holidays is an affordable bill.

To: Frederick Hoover, Chair, Public Service Commission of Maryland (PSC), Carim V. Khouzami President and Chief Executive Officer (BGE)

It’s the holiday season, and our budgets for gifts and food to celebrate with our loved ones are tighter than ever. And if the Public Service Commission approves BGE’s proposed $602.4 million multi-year rate hike, we know staying warm through the winter months will be more costly than ever.

All I want for the holidays is an affordable BGE bill.

I hope the PSC will reject BGE’s proposed multi-year rate hike (Case No. 9692) which, among other things, makes massive and unnecessary investments in new fossil gas infrastructure.

BGE and the PSC should be helping Marylanders electrify and insulate our homes, not hiking our rates and locking us into more fossil fuel infrastructure.
