Canada must step up at the UN Climate Conference!

World leaders are about to make critical decisions about our future at COP28, the UN climate conference in Dubai.

Canada currently has the widest gap of any country between its climate promises and climate action. To turn things around, we must stop expanding fossil fuel production and work to rapidly shift to 100% justly sourced and implemented renewable energy.

Email Prime Minister Trudeau and Environment Minister Guilbeault now and demand that Canada starts acting like a true climate champion at COP28.

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau and Environment and Climate Change Minister Guilbeault,

It is shameful that, despite all your promises, the UN has called out Canada for having the widest gap of any country between climate commitments and implementation.

This is why, when the Canada delegation joins representatives from around the world at COP28, you must set a target to triple renewable energy by 2030, to keep us in line with the 1.5C target.

As a Canadian who is deeply concerned about the climate crisis, I am asking you to make the following commitments:

- 100% renewable energy by 2050 which means phasing out of fossil fuels by then. Even faster for industrialized, rich countries to ensure fairness and equity.
- Globally, we’ll add about 0.44TW (440GW) renewable energy this year. By 2030, we must triple our total capacity of renewable energy to over 11,000GW which means ramping up yearly deployment to 1.5TW (1500GW) from 2030 onward.
- Double energy efficiency gains (from about 2% to 4%) by 2030.

This new report published by 350.org (350.org/report-powerupforclimatejustice/) shows we still have a chance to change course for a better future, but only if you act. Canada must start leading by example in addressing the climate crisis!
