Thank you! Thousands of people have written to the mayor of Paris, who accepted to meet with us next week so we can find accommodation for the people around the world who want to have their voices heard in the Climate Summit. This is another example of people power working. With your help, we’ll keep the pressure on French officials to make sure everybody is represented at the COP21.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
For months now the French climate coalition mobilizing towards COP 21, representing over 130 international civil society organisations, has been negotiating with the French authorities to prepare the ground for 10,000s of people to take action in Paris.
Despite multiple promises, the City of Paris as well as the French government is still refusing to cooperate and actively making it difficult for civil society to play its part in the process. So far:
- They have turned down the suggested route for a huge climate march through central Paris on November 29.
- They have fallen short of providing the accommodation needed for the 10,000s people travelling to Paris to be heard during the climate talks.
- Organisations and movements from the Global South have raised concerns over the lack of cooperation from the French embassies in providing visas.
This is not acceptable - Paris can and must do better.
Join us in putting pressure on Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, to help civil society play an active role in the Paris climate talks this December.
