People are reeling from some of the highest heating bills we’ve ever seen.

This winter’s record storms and frigid temperatures are partly to blame, but they don’t tell the full story. Energy costs are rising because fossil fuels are getting more expensive, because utility companies are hiking up their rates, and because climate-fueled disasters like wildfires and hurricanes are devastating our communities.

They’re also rising because in most states, utility companies are allowed to pass the costs of lobbying against the transition to clean, affordable energy on to their customers.

To protect your constituents from rising energy costs, I urge you to:

1. Cap utility rate hikes by setting a limit on how much utility companies are allowed to hike up energy rates each year.
2. Ban utility companies from passing their anti-renewable energy lobbying costs onto their customers.
3. Expand clean, renewable, affordable energy and reinstate the solar and wind energy projects that the Trump administration put on pause.
