Everywhere, costs are rising due to the price of oil and gas. This isn’t inevitable. It’s a political choice. New data shows fossil fuels make life more expensive by design.

We’re paying for fossil fuels three times over – through taxes, bills, and the climate disasters that hit our homes, communities, and public services.

It’s high time our governments stopped allowing fossil fuel companies to rake in outrageous profits while we end up paying out of pocket.

Send this new report to Congress and tell them to stop subsidizing fossil fuels and invest more in affordable renewable energy.

Lately, everything is getting more expensive – electricity, food, transport. This new report, Out of Pocket: How Fossil Fuels are Draining Households and Economies, helped me understand why, and now I am sharing this with you.

The report shows that people in the U.S. and around the world are paying a huge price for fossil fuels – through higher energy bills, taxes that fund government subsidies, rising food costs, and growing damage because of climate change impacts.

This isn’t just bad luck or something out of our control. It’s the result of decisions that continue to support fossil fuels while we, ordinary people, absorb the cost.

Congress has the power to change this and set the bar for the rest of the world.

I urge you to:
- End fossil fuel subsidies and replace blanket handouts with direct cash support for the families who need it most, not oil companies
- Invest public money where it belongs, away from fossil fuel expansion and toward clean energy for all
- Make polluters pay, including through windfall taxes on the billions in profits oil and gas companies are pocketing right now
- Stop fossil fuel companies from being able to sue governments for passing climate laws

Delaying action is making life more expensive for people everywhere.

We can’t afford more delay.
