60 Hours: Make Sure the EPA Hears Us

This summer, the EPA announced a plan to limit carbon pollution from existing power plants. This new carbon rule is great news for the climate -- but it's not perfect, and it's not enough. The EPA is accepting public comments on the carbon rule until Monday at midnight (EST). Let's make sure they know where we stand. The fossil fuel industry has been trying to weaken the carbon rule at every turn, so our public comments need to provide a counterweight to their power. If done right, these rules can help protect communities located near coal-fired power plants, slow the accumulation of carbon in the atmosphere, and accelerate a shift from coal and gas to wind and solar. But if the fossil fuel industry has their way, these new rules may just replace coal with fracked natural gas. It bears repeating: this rule is a good thing. The Obama administration can and must do more, but this is a step in the right direction. It's also a step that wouldn't have happened without a climate movement that's growing in power -- in Washington and beyond. For the next 60 hours, let's keep pushing.
