Australia - don't be a climate spoiler - say YES to cutting coal finance - 350

We’ve just heard that Australia is trying to block a deal that would help protect the climate by slashing billions of dollars for dirty new coal plants.*

The final decision gets made next week so we need to act fast - can you email our PM and Foreign Minister now to tell them to choose a safe climate over coal?

Every year, the world’s wealthiest nations provide around $4 billion to new coal-fired power stations. But late last month—after two years of efforts led by President Obama and supported by campaigners around the world—the US and Japan agreed on a plan to turn off this tap to dirty new coal.

In other words, if you want cash for your country’s new coal plant, forget about it—many of the world’s governments will now put their money elsewhere. But who wants to buck the trend so it can keep selling its coal abroad? You guessed it -- Australia!

And because the process is agreed upon by consensus, Australia could block this deal that has been years in the making, opening the door to dozens of new coal plants at a time when we desperately need to keep fossil fuels in the ground for a safe climate future.

But if we can demonstrate enough public opposition to Australia’s pro-coal position, we might just succeed in getting our Government to turn around.

Email Turnbull & Bishop today to let them know you don’t want Australia scuppering this deal that would protect the climate by keeping coal in the ground!
