In a huge breakthrough in the fight to protect the climate and the Reef, CommBank and NAB have both publicly ruled out involvement in Adani's Galilee coal project.
This huge victory is thanks to dozens of community groups and individuals who have run bold and creative actions at bank branches across the country and the thousands of people that have put the banks on notice, closed their accounts and taken action online.
We've known for some time that Galilee coal is 'unbankable'. Now, Adani and its ill-fated proposal is 'bankless', with 14 banks out of the game and not a single bank willing to cough up the cash.
But of course the fight is not over yet. It is now time for Australia's two other major banks to catch up with the rest of the world and rule any involvement with Galilee coal.
Send a letter to the CEOs of ANZ & Westpac to let them know that now is the time to act.
CommBank and NAB's announcements shows that when we stand together and challenge powerful corporations with clever, bold and creative actions we can achieve great things.
Take a moment to send a letter to ANZ and Westpac letting them know that this is their chance to take a stance on Galilee coal.
