Tell the DOE: Close this coal plant!

A coal-fired power plant in Michigan was scheduled to close — but the Trump administration is forcing it to stay open at a cost of $1 million per day, with ratepayers footing the bill.

Will you help us hold the Trump administration accountable? Add your name to our petition to the Secretary of Energy today and demand that this coal plant be shut down as planned.

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright:

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose your efforts to force the JH Campbell coal-fired power plant in Michigan to stay open past its planned closure date.

Coal is the dirtiest fossil fuel, and every day spent burning it for energy puts local residents’ health at risk. It’s also a leading source of climate-warming pollution, and it’s putting our future at risk.

We don’t need coal. We should be repowering our neighborhoods with clean, affordable, community-owned energy — not prolonging using coal to pad the fossil fuel industry’s bottom line at the expense of everyone else. Each day you force this coal plant to remain open, Michigan ratepayers are being saddled with $1 million per day in unnecessary operating costs.

You serve the American people, not the fossil fuel industry. The American people demand a clean energy future. Stop forcing this coal plant to stay open.

Sincerely,
