The U.S. House just passed HR 9495, a bill that would give the incoming Trump administration the unprecedented power to silence organizations it doesn’t like by revoking their nonprofit status and shutting them down.
HR 9495 would be an absolute disaster for our progressive movement as a whole, plus it would have a chilling effect on our ability to fight for climate justice and oppose hazardous fossil fuel projects. Our next chance to stop this dangerous bill is in the Senate.

I am writing to you today urging you NOT to bring HR 9495, otherwise known as the “Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act,” to the Senate floor for a vote. This deceptive and dangerous bill would give the incoming Trump administration the unprecedented power to revoke nonprofit status from any organization it doesn’t like, without due process or proof.
Please do not bring this bill to the Senate floor in order to protect our constitutional freedom of speech and right to protest.
