UPDATE: On February 18th, the cost of Trans Mountain was announced to have risen to more than $21 billion. The Government of Canada responded to this by ending public funding of the project. Now is the time to stop construction, reconsider and cancel this pipeline.
Please add your name to this open letter calling on Justin Trudeau and his new cabinet to formally pause construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline and conduct a comprehensive review of the project.
In the past year, the Trans Mountain pipeline has been subjected to extreme heat, wildfires, flooding and, most recently, had sections of construction buried under landslides. All of this is being driven by a climate crisis that, if we build this pipeline, Canada can’t do our part to tackle.
Whatever math Justin Trudeau and his cabinet did when they first approved this pipeline, it isn’t holding up. We need a formal, federal review and reconsideration of the pipeline before we pump billions more public dollars into it and put communities and the climate further at risk. That’s why we're asking people across Canada to sign and share this open letter. Add your name now.
