530pm PT/ 830pm ET
Presented by: Joshua Kahn Russell, Sachie Hopkins Hayakawa
Timing: 1.5 hours
How do we organize in a way that is in integrity and alignment with communities that have the most at stake in environmental and climate fights? Joshua Kahn Russell will offer insights about building relationships of solidarity with integrity and power, and Sachie Hopkins Hayakawa will speak to the implications and possibilities for divestment campaigns being in solidarity with communities on the frontlines of fossil fuel impacts. They look forward to spurring discussion and answering a lot of questions about solidarity organizing and divestment.
Special guest:
Julia Ho is a divestment activist working in St Louis, Missouri. As a student at Washington University, Julia helped organize a 17-day occupation aimed at Peabody Energy, the world's largest private coal corporation. As someone currently working on the ground in Ferguson, she will speak to the importance of linking divestment campaigns to frontline communities that are facing the immediate and chronic impacts of both racial and environmental injustice.
