Thurs 27 Nov - Mon 1 Dec
Over the coming months the fight to stop the Maules Creek coal mine from being constructed in the Leard Forest is going to reach a pinnacle. Whitehaven are trying to push ahead with tree clearning, blasting and disrespcting the wishes of the local community and all of us who hope for a safe climate. We need to respond with more and more folks travelling to the blockade and taking part in this historic campaign.
Canberrans, from all walks of life, are going to 'adopt' the last week of November as their own at the Blockade. Dozens of us will travel to the front line of this fight to take part in actions, help out around the camp and together learn why this has been a line-in-the-sand campaign for the Australia climate movement.
Sign-up today to receive updates about the trip and to begin planning transport. Read on below for more details about the camp and blockade.
Who's organising the trip - The ANU Environment Collective and 350 Canberra have teamed up to organise this trip. An organiser from one of these groups will be in touch with you to help plan the trip.
About the camp – a local farmer is accommodating the camp on his land. The property is near the Maules Creek township and has a kitchen, water supply, cold showers, toilets and ample space to pitch a tent. When you register will get in touch to give you directions and the latest details.
Food and water – three communal meals are shared at the camp each day. It is asked that a donation of $10 per day be made to cover the food and other services you use. There is easy access to potable water.
Tents – it’s preferable to bring your own tent and camping gear. However, if you don’t have access to this gear, there are spare tents to share at the camp – just let us know when you register.
Getting there:
Car – the camp is 7 hours from Sydney and 8 hours from Canberra and Brisbane. Once you register to make the trip we’ll send through the driving instructions
Train – there is a service once a day from Sydney, departing at 9:30am. Get off at Narrabri Station and we’ll arrange to pick you up.
Need a lift? – let us know when you register and we’ll try and connect you with other folks travelling up.
