This webinar happened on Tuesday April 21st, at 8:00PM EST (5:00 PDT / 6:00 CST / 9:00 ADT). You can watch it here.
Just over two weeks ago, TransCanada cancelled its export port in Cacouna, Quebec, and delayed its massive Energy East project by two years. We know that this victory happened because the people in Quebec got organized.
We also know that it was just the beginning. Come hear the stories and strategies of how it happened in Quebec and join the conversation about making dozens of Cacounas happen all the way to the end of the Energy East line, in Saint John, New Brunswick.
The short panel will be followed by a Q&A and discussion about upcoming mobilization along the pipeline route.
Here's what you can expect from inspiring speakers:
- Mikael Rioux is an activist who played a central role in the growing grassroots movement of the past year in Quebec. He will talk about organizing near Cacouna and the strategies that successfully built wide opposition to the Energy East pipeline.
- Karine Péloffy is Executive director of the Quebec Environmental Law Center. She will talk about some the legal roadblocks and interplay of strategies that worked to cancel the Cacouna port.
- Lynaya McKinley is an organizer in Red Head, Saint John, where TransCanada’s end of the line terminal would export tar sands oil through the Bay of Fundy. She will talk about her experience working to build up local opposition in Saint John and the challenges and opportunities to defeat the pipeline.
- Cam Fenton is Tar Sands organizer with 350.org. He will talk about how to build from the current momentum and unique moment to mobilize and unify local community opposition along Energy East during the We > Tar Sands mobilization this July.
