Bathurst Resources wants to turn the spectacular Denniston Plateau into a large open cast coal mine. And Westpac is helping finance them.
Tell Westpac you want them to stop funding climate change, especially coal mining on the Denniston Plateau.
Send a letter to Westpac now to tell them to call in their loan and stop extending financing to Bathurst Resources Ltd.

Financing Coal No Longer Adds Up
Westpac’s financing helps Bathurst Resources pursue their plans to mine up to 84 million tonnes of coal on the West Coast’s Denniston Plateau and along the adjacent Buller plateau. This would put another 218 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Westpac is directly funding climate change.
Just as investors have a responsibility to invest ethically, banks have a responsibility not to lend to climate disaster.
Big lenders are waking up to their responsibilities; the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the US government have all recently announced they will stop lending to new coal power plants.
Destroying Denniston would also destroy a unique ecosystem. Denniston is an important conservation area, home to rare species of geckos, prostrate plants, giant snails and kiwi.
Ask Westpac to Live Up to its Promises on Sustainability
Westpac prides itself on winning the 2011 “Sustainable Business of the Year” award. It says “we’ve put sustainability at the heart of our culture” … “our commitment to the environment covers our own operations as well as the impact of their products and services”.
Let’s call on them to live up to their promises. Send this letter to Westpac now and tell them to stop funding climate change.
