Update: The people sitting in at Minister Garneau's office in Montreal were forcefully removed. The Minister would sooner kick out peaceful demonstrators than make a statement on Kinder Morgan. Minister McKenna spoke to the people sitting in at her office early in the day, and later issued a public statement but one that did not name the action or Kinder Morgan. Both sit ins have now ended but we encourage folks to continue calling these offices and leaving voice mail.
Yesterday, people in Toronto and Winnipeg sat in at the offices of Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr and Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennet calling on the ministers to stand up to big oil and publicly oppose the Kinder Morgan tar sands pipeline. Today, sit-ins are happening in the offices of Minister of Transport Marc Garneau and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna with the same message.
Add your voice to the sit-in by calling both Ministers and follow along with the sit-ins with the hashtag #KMSitin.
Prime Minister Trudeau and his cabinet will make a decision on the Kinder Morgan pipeline in a matter of weeks. We need to send them a clear message that climate leaders don't build pipelines.
