Since August 2011, Movement on the Road '96 Imider - a social movement stays in permanent sit-in on Albban Mount: the longest sit-in protest (it’s just started the fourth consecutive year) in the history of Morocco. The Movement on the Road '96, which represents the population of Imider (rural municipality in the province of Tinerhir- south-east of Morocco), is fighting peacefully since years for the recognition of basic, social and economic rights of the local population, oppressed by the intensive exploitation on the territory of the silver mine largest in Africa, managed by the SMI, which is part of the ONA multinational controlled by Moroccan royal family. Imider’s territory suffers heavily from this exploitation, in terms of serious pollution of the environment by using dangerous subctances as Cyanide and Mercury (which hurts health, agriculture and livestock) and advance the desertification process. Since around four years Movement on the Road '96 organizes the permanent sit-in and the continuing protest marches against this serious situation of violation of human basics, social and economic rights, undergoing arbitrary arrests and any kind of intimidation by the Moroccan authorities.
For the People's Climate Mobilisation we will organize a peaceful march in 21st september 2014 to say no for the politics of destroying our environment and against human violation by all this we invite all those who are sensitive to these issues to join us on sunday.
