Watch (out) for Earth!
Two Films in a ‘Planetary’ Gathering
As I write this, Paris and Lebanon, and most of the world, are reeling from a new level of brutality inflicted on their people in the recent terrorist attacks. In the midst of this threat, Paris will be hosting what we all hope will be a groundbreaking, collaborative and peaceful international gathering of climate negotiators.
Watch (out) for Earth! will be held at the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge on Sunday, November 29 from 4 pm to 8.30 pm to bear witness to the beauty and wonder of our planet, and to send a strong message: we are watching!
We will watch the movie Planetary at 4pm and afterwards have time for those interested to speak about our reactions to the film and about the shift in consciousness the film has as its major thread.
At 7 pm we will show the movie The Creative Universe by Rüdiger Sünner (Germany, 2010) This film has not been shown in our area before and speaks to the ‘war of world views’ so devastatingly apparent in the terrorist attacks. It features interviews with leading scientists who are also spiritual practitioners and shows powerfully that the quest for scientific knowledge and faith or wonder at the miracles of existence are complementary expressions of respect and love for life and the earth: god and science go hand in hand.
We hope you can come for one or both films. Both look deeply at the roots of our love for the planet and the dangerous precipice we have taken it and ourselves to. Each in its own way makes for challenging, moving and awe-inspiring viewing. And they are not just compelling for people who have already been engaged with fighting climate change. That is one of the reasons we wanted to show them, so feel free to bring your family or friends!
As well as a dialogue after Planetary, there will be a 'photo-op’ (!) for pictures to post on the international Climate Action Day’s website.
Please sign up here to make sure there is space:
