Join us to deliver a HUGE petition from students, staff and community members calling on the University of Melbourne to divest, along with a petition from alumni asking the University to divest. We need you there to show your support and put a face to your petition signature.
Haven't signed the petition yet? Do it here!
When: April 22nd, 12-1.30pm
Where: Starting at South Lawn, University of Melbourne, Parkville
What:
We will start out by making a giant orange X on South Lawn, followed by speeches, an 'oil spill' then a short march to the Administration Building (Raymond Priestley), where we will deliver the petitions to the University Secretary, who will be collecting them on behalf of the University Council.
There are concrete plans underway to see the University divest from fossil fuels as part of a broader Charter on Sustainability and Climate, likely to be adopted by the University in June.
Nonetheless, the Charter has still not been approved and a commitment to full and timely divestment is in no way secured- this semester it is more important than ever before that we demonstrate the University community's support for full divestment within 5 years. We need you there to get the University over the line!
