Science Museum: stop sponsorship deals with big polluters!

You couldn’t make it up. Despite the huge backlash over Shell’s sponsoring one of their exhibitions, the Science museum has doubled down and just signed a brand new sponsorship deal with the coal giant Adani!

This is unacceptable: Add your name to call on the Science Museum to drop Adani and stop accepting sponsorship money from big polluters now.

We’re close to the UN Climate Summit and the Science Museum has just announced that Adani, an energy conglomerate currently building Australia’s largest coal mine, will be the sponsor of its upcoming climate gallery ‘Energy Revolution: The Adani Green Energy Gallery’.

The coal giant is using this cultural sponsorship to boost its climate credentials and distract attention from its vast emissions and disregard for Indigenous rights. Uncle Adrian Burragubba, an Indigenous Traditional Owner of the land where Adani’s Carmichael mine is being constructed, said:

‘Adani bankrupted me for standing up for my rights and filed a court order making it illegal for our people to practice culture on our own country. By putting this company on a pedestal, the Science Museum is complicit in Adani’s violation of our Human Rights and destruction of our ancestral lands.‘

This deal won't stand. The good news is the new gallery doesn’t open until 2023, so we still have time to stop the sponsorship from going ahead. Together, we can demand that the Science Museum finds a sponsor that isn’t planning to increase its coal footprint by 800% by trashing Indigenous lands.

Please contact the museum today: tell them to drop Adani and commit to stop taking sponsorship from fossil fuel companies immediately.
