Reuters, ban fossil ads!

We demand that Reuters stops accepting and publishing advertising from fossil fuel companies on all their news websites and apps.

As one of the world’s largest multimedia news organisations with millions of monthly visitors, Reuters has a unique role to play in setting the standards for socially responsible, quality journalism. And yet, it still accepts fossil fuel ads.

Following the Guardian's announcement that the news company would refuse advertising by coal, oil and fossil gas companies, it's time for Reuters and other global media organisations to follow suit.

As one of the world’s largest multimedia news organisations with millions of monthly visitors, Reuters has a unique role to play in setting the standards for socially responsible, quality journalism.

Following the Guardian's announcement [1] that the news company would refuse advertising by coal, oil and fossil gas companies, it's time for Reuters and other global media organisations to follow suit.

Too long fossil fuel companies have been able to infiltrate our public spaces, our media, our cultural institutions, even our schools, while at the same time profiting from destroying the climate, and preventing any meaningful climate action through extensive lobbying of governments and parliaments.

It's time we demand unbiased, reliable media free from the toxic influence of coal, oil and gas corporations. It's time newspapers stop publishing greenwashing ads, and stop accepting money made from environmental and social destruction. It's time to fully remove the fossil fuel companies' social licence to operate. 

By signing this petition you’ll join countless others across the world calling for Fossil Free Media, and you’ll help put direct pressure on Reuters. Their Advertising Guidelines [2] clearly state that Reuters can refuse ads if they put the agency’s reputation at risk. Let’s show them that unless they ban fossil fuel ads, their reputation will suffer.
