Tell President Lula: Break up with Big Oil!

Brazil’s President Lula said he will approve more oil exploration near the Amazon River – the only water source that local Indigenous People and wildlife depend on.

President Lula is hoping to fly under the radar and start the project before the COP30 climate negotiation starts to avoid bad press. This is why we need to speak up now and let him know that we are watching.

Can you sign the petition and tell Lula: break up with Big Oil and stop destroying the Amazon?

Dear President Lula,

As the President of Brazil and the host for the COP30 climate talks, you have the obligation to lead the world in protecting our planet from the worst impacts of the climate crisis. That starts with rejecting any fossil fuel projects near the Amazon.

2024 was a devastating year for Brazil. From extreme heat to wildfires to catastrophic flooding, your country was no stranger to the climate crisis.1 We know that there is a direct connection between the fossil fuel industry and global heating. Approving more fossil fuel projects will only make the situation worse. More people will suffer as a result of your action, especially Indigenous Peoples living in the Amazon forest.

When you were first elected, you promised to be a climate leader. With COP30 coming up soon, countries around the world are looking to you for your leadership. And people like us are watching your every step. So please, be the climate leader we need, break up with Big Oil and stop fossil fuel projects in the Amazon forest!2
