Kijumba Solar

Women of Kijumba village in Kabaale sub-county, Hoima district in Uganda take part in a solar training initiative led by the Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment (CECIC). The project seeks to reverse the effects of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) by introducing solar energy use to Project Affected Persons. Women of the village learn how to operate solar systems, fix solar lights to their home and maintain solar installations. The Kijumba Solar initiative is part of the REPower Afrika campaign which aims to speed up the shift away from fossil fuels to distributed, community-owned renewable energy. © Henry Desouza Nelson / 350.org
