References to Climate Change Response Funds are useful considering the present and worsening impacts of the climate crisis. A lot of our funds are seen to be supporting the private sector though through electric vehicle development and the private renewable energy sector. We need socioeconomic development, but we need to know how these budget allocations ensure fair, equitable, transparent and accountable allocations to mitigate emissions, transition away from the coal-based energy sector fairly and deal with impacts of the crisis in a way that serves the worst-impacted first. https://lnkd.in/dqzEWixY

“We have to see this renewable energy transition not just as the emissions, but also the opportunity to change the world and how people interact with it.” – Mitzi Jonelle Tan, Fridays for Future Philippines Days away from #COP28, the world has never been closer to a global renewable energy target — but targets alone aren’t enough, and no amount of money poured into RE will give us a fair, sustainable world unless we do it right. 350.org’s new report, Power Up for Climate Justice, lays out a path from here to a fair, affordable, and sustainable energy system that’s actually feasible within our current economic and geopolitical realities. With a few key decisions and investments, some already begun and some up for discussion when COP28 kicks off on November 30, we can keep global heating under 1.5C and create an energy system that’s equitable and kind to our planet. Time is short, but there’s plenty to be hopeful about if we keep the pressure on world leaders to act. Get your copy of the report here for the full technical roadmap of how we can use smart, bold, and just RE investments to stay below 1.5C 👉

11moWithout a firm timeline and method of how coal processing will be phased out, as well as plans for addressing the environmental (and, presumably, handling huge economic) ramifications of resource extraction, any promises of phasing out by 2030 are not to be believed. Without a plan, promises are empty.
