Defence of Indigenous Land BIPOC fund -Fairy Creek

GoFundMe requires an explanation of 1) how the funds will reach the intended recipients, 2) a detailed explanation of how the funds will be spent:
1) Indigenous land defender, and niece of Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones, xʷ is xʷ čaa (@aunte.katiegeorgejim on instagram), has asked me to facilitate the releasing of these funds to Indigenous land defenders; I am solely acting as a vehicle to transfer funds to the intended recipients. That is, I will withdraw the funds from the GFM into a bank account I set up for this fundraiser (not my personal bank account) on behalf of the beneficiaries (Coastal Defence Alliance). This is because xʷ is xʷ čaa, and those on the frontlines, have limited access to internet, and devices to be able to regularly facilitate withdrawals and e-transfers of funds. As requests come in, I will be forwarding them on to the Coastal Defence Alliance, supported by xʷ is xʷ čaa. They will be making all decisions on the approval of funding requests. With their written instruction, I will then e-transfer approved recipients from an e-mail created specifically for this purpose.
2) The intention behind this fundraiser is to support Indigenous land defenders in whatever ways are needed to support their frontline work. As requested by xʷ is xʷ čaa, this includes support towards their participation in frontline work, as well as aftercare, and healing from colonial violence for Indigenous land defenders. As such, this could look like many things, including but not limited to: accessibility to participate in the actions (gas, gear, etc.), other cultural works and projects, as well as individual self-care and healing (bodywork, trauma work, therapy, food, shelter, etc.) This is based in mutual trust, and love - and will largely operate on a no questions asked basis.

For transparency/accountability’s sake - I am a white settler femme living on unceded Lekwungen & W̱SÁNEĆ territories. I am not/have not been on the frontlines alongside Indigenous land defenders and their allies/accomplices at Fairy Creek. I have been closely following the social medias of those directly involved, and created this in response to Aya’s (@dreamsincoastal) call to action for a GFM specifically for healing funds for Indigenous land defenders. I have since been in contact with some of the front lines folks, including xʷ is xʷ čaa (@auntie.katiegeorgejim) and on their instruction, will be helping to facilitate the releasing of funds to Indigenous land defenders doing frontline work at Fairy Creek. Setting this up as requested by Aya Clappis/ƛapisim's call to action (@dreamsincoastal on instagram). Funds urgently needed for support in terms of ongoing and aftercare support / healing from RCMP violence for Indigenous land defenders at the Fairy Creek Blockades protesting old growth logging in May 2021. As of now, at least 100+ land defenders have been arrested by RCMP (multiple violent arrests of peaceful protesters, legal observers and media) Meanwhile RCMP have denied further access to the area to media and legal observers following arrests. RCMP threatened to use tear gas and rubber bullets on peaceful protesters tree-sitting. Concurrently, Teal Jones Group has continued tree-felling within two tree lengths of protesters tree sitting in ancient old growth trees in the area, putting their lives directly at risk despite Work Safe BC's order to halt logging near the protesters. The Instagram page associated with the blockade, @fairycreekblockade was deleted by Instagram stifling contact between the front lines and the outside world (it has since been reactivated). Immediate support is needed to provide Indigenous land defenders and their communities with ongoing and aftercare support in healing from the violence imposed upon them by RCMP and Teal Jones. Updates to come as more information arrives.
