COP25

Madrid, Spain. 2 – 13 December 2019.

Demanding human rights, climate justice, and clean energy for all

At this year’s UN climate talks, we’re demanding that our governments stop giving our money to the fossil fuel industry and fund just climate solutions instead.

Climate talks have so far made little progress on setting up mechanisms to adequately respond to the loss of life and the damage caused by the climate crisis. Addressing the climate crisis means addressing its root causes too.

Developed countries have a moral responsibility to support the most vulnerable, who are not only the ones most impacted by the climate crisis and the least responsible for it, but also the ones who need the most help addressing the loss and damage caused by a warming world.

Governments can no longer ignore the voices of the millions of people who are calling on leaders to scale up the transition away from climate change-driving fossil fuels, towards renewable energy.

We are matching the financial power of the fossil fuel industry with the power of movements, with the youth leading the way towards the world we need.

Tell your government:

Stop giving public money to the fossil fuel industry

While people around the world struggle with unemployment, poverty, and the ever increasing impacts of the climate crisis, some of our governments have recently pumped more than USD $63.9 billion per year into the fossil fuel industry.

Many governments are attending COP25, the climate summit, in Spain from 2-13 December, to discuss and agree measures to deal with climate change - making it the perfect time for us to put pressure on them to stop funding fossil fuel projects.

We need all banks to stop funding fossil fuel companies, and our governments to stop propping them up with subsidies.

Tens of thousands of people calling for an end to the financing of fossil fuels has made a difference this year already when the European Investment Bank (the world’s largest international public bank) cut its support for coal and oil financing.

While governments gather in Madrid, we have a chance to end their support of this climate-destroying industry by calling for:

  1. An end to funding for all fossil fuels.
  2. The protection of human rights, especially Indigenous rights, from the fossil fuel industry.
  3. Major financial commitments from wealthy countries to support a just transition to renewable energy, and pay for loss and damage from climate impacts around the world.

We'll deliver your calls directly to the government representatives at COP25.

The faces of resistance at COP25

There is a familiar face of those who care for the majority of our planet – and it is Indigenous. It’s only just that Indigenous voices are heard in the most important global discussions about the climate crisis we are living.

Human Rights Day: An Indigenous fight at the forefront

Indigenous peoples have been met with the worst of the extractive fossil fuel industry. On Human Rights Day, we celebrate the climate actions and solutions from Indigenous and frontline communities.
