PM Trudeau will be meeting with investors in Texas on May 9th, and we need to put pressure the government to step down from their commitment to the Kinder Morgan Pipeline.

First Nations people have have been poorly consulted and had their concerns ignored and pushed through, yet they are leading the country in the fight to protect our water, land, and community. The Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish are coastal First Nations who’ve taken the federal government to court. The Secwepemc in the interior of BC – whose lands cover almost half of Kinder Morgan’s route – are building solar-panelled tiny houses directly in the pipeline’s path. Lubicon, Athabasca Chipewyan and Beaver Lake Cree downstream of the Alberta mines, continue to call out as they have their land, waters, and bodies poisoned by the expansion of the tar sands. This is an issue of Canada's continued exploitation of First Nations' consent, land, and waters in a purported "era of reconcilliation".
This is an issue of climate change: The pipeline is a serious risk for us and future generations as it would fan the flames of climate change by increasing the production of high-carbon fuel sources. Kinder Morgan would enable a huge expansion of tar sands extraction, adding millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions at a time when we desperately need to cut back. The Kinder Morgan project would unlock the climate impacts, making it IMPOSSIBLE for the Liberal government to keep its commitment to keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees.

Ceci est un problème de changement climatique: Le pipeline est un risque serieux pour nous et pour les genérations futurs. Il catalyserait le changement climatique en augmentant la production des combustibles fossiles. Kinder Morgan permettrait une expansion immense de l’extraction, ce qui ajouterait des milliards des tonnes de gaz à effet de serre. Tout ça à un moment où on a fort besoin d’en reduire. Le projet Kinder Morgan exposerait des impacts climatiques, rendant IMPOSSIBLE pour le gouvernement Liberal de garder le réchauffement climatique en dessous de 1.5 degrés, comme qu’il a promis.
Les Premiers Nations ont étés insuffissament consultés et leurs inquétudes ont étés ignorés. Néanmoins ils dirigent notre pays dans la lutte pour protéger les eaux, terres, et communautés.
Les Tsleil-Waututh et Squamish sont les Premiers Nations qui ont lancé une action contre le gouvernement en cour.
