As politicians gear up for an early federal election, it’s up to us to bring the impacts of climate change front and centre leading up to their campaign trail. On September 8th, while catastrophic climate events continue to erupt around us, the Sunshine Coast will be demanding emergency-level climate action.
Join us at Davis Bay Pier at 4pm on Wednesday September 8th, as part of the nationwide 350.org 'Canada is Still on Fire National Day of Action', to call for a moratorium on fossil fuel expansion and just transition legislation. Together, we can show our elected officials and #elxn44 candidates that climate change will be a central issue to voters this year as record-breaking climate events ravage communities coast-to-coast.
After meeting at the Davis Bay Pier at 4pm, we'll safely fan out on the sidewalks adjacent to the pier (and across the road) from 4-5pm to share our important messages with our coastal community. Please bring your friends, family and signs as we demand our politicians to muster up the courage to combat the climate crisis. COVID-19 protocols of masks and physical distancing will be observed. Please bring face masks.
A few kids are planning to dress up as firefighters, and we’d love to have more. Props such as clocks, pretend fire equipment are encouraged! Remember Canada is on fire!
We acknowledge this event takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the shíshálh Nation.
This is a family-friendly, non-partisan event. #canadaonfire #voteforourkids
