Canada On Fire Day of Action

Toronto On Fire: Climate Emergency Day of Action

Wednesday, September 8, 11:00 AM
Queens Park.
1 Queens Park
Toronto, Ontario, M7A 1A8, Canada
Toronto day of action! As politicians gear up for an early federal election, it’s up to us to bring the impacts of climate change front and centre leading up to their campaign trail. On September 8th, while catastrophic climate events continue to erupt around us, Toronto will be demanding emergency-level climate action. Join us in front of the Queen's Park legislative buildings to call for a moratorium on fossil fuel expansion and just transition legislation. Together, we can show our elected officials that climate change will be a central issue to voters this year as record-breaking climate events ravage communities coast-to-coast. Bring face masks, friends, and signs as we demand our politicians to muster up the courage to combat the climate crisis. The event will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Our speakers and/or performers will appear in the following order: Cathy Song-Deh-Kwe – Indigenous Connection to the Land + Performance Lyn Adamson – Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Debbie Valentine – Unifor “Is My Microphone On?” – Canadian Stage Company Tim Ellis – LeadNow Alice Zhu – University of Toronto PhD Student, Plastic Pollution Cassie Norton – Music for Climate Justice Instructions on how to reach the Toronto on Fire rally for people with mobility issues: We highly encourage people with mobility issues and other disabilities to attend our Toronto on Fire rally and we will have some space reserved for you at the front of the rally! Here are some instructions on how to reach the event without having to use stairs and/or if you have never been to the Queen’s Park legislative buildings before. 1. Take the TTC to Queen’s Park station. We recommend Queen’s Park station because it has an elevator that you can use to reach the sidewalk on College Street. 2. After you exit the subway onto the platform inside Queen’s Park station, find the elevator inside the station. It should be possible to board the elevator from the subway platform. 3. Take the elevator from subway platform station to the top floor, which is the northeast exit of Queen’s Park station. Exit the station. 4. Go northward on the sidewalk of Queen’s Park Crescent East until you reach Grosvenor Street. You should see the Toronto On Fire event happening if you look westward toward the Queen’s Park legislative buildings while travelling up the Queen’s Park Crescent East sidewalk. 5. Use the street lights at Grosvenor Street to cross the street going west onto the Queen’s Park grounds that hold the legislative building. A marshal should be close-by to show you to the reserved space for people with mobility issues.
