Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition invites everyone to join us in imagining and calling for a Just Transition. The Government of Canada, here on Turtle Island, has promised a transition from the fossil economy to clean energy, the regeneration of nature, and social equity, but it has yet to produce a plan for a transition.
On March 12th at 12 pm, we will gather outside the Canadian Museum for Human Rights to celebrate the mock-opening of a federal Ministry for a Just Transition at that site. Join us to illustrate what a Just Transition would mean for us all—Indigenous sovereignty, social equity, good health, good education, green energy, green jobs, green housing, green transit, green spaces, and green food. Let’s call for a just transition guided by Indigenous knowledge, climate science, and a commitment to leave no one behind.
A Federal Ministry for a Just Transition may not yet exist, but together we can paint a picture of a better world (and a better Canada) that is possible. On March 12th, join your community, alongside friends across the country, in demonstrating to the federal government what a momentous opportunity lies right before them. Bring signs and art, bring friends and family, and most of all, bring enthusiasm and hope. Please wear a mask and follow all COVID-19 health guidelines.
