Join with dozens of kayaks, canoes and bicycles traveling on and along the Assiniboine River culminating in a family friendly celebration at The Forks to protect the land and water from TransCanada's proposed Energy East pipeline. We invite you to support the paddlers at Osbrone Street bridge, at 11:00 where we hold our own little sidewalk party with banners, placards and handouts.
Details:
9:30 A.M.: Everyone gathers at Assiniboine Park Foot Bridge.
10:00 A.M.: Following a traditional prayer ceremony paddlers will make their way to The Forks via the Assiniboine River and the pedallers will parade along Portage Avenue, through Wolseley to Broadway to Main Street and accessing The Forks via Mahatma Ghandi Way to a rendezvous at Oodena Circle.
11:30 A.M.: Family events begin at Oodena Circle.
Noon: Activities at Oodena Circle will be MC'ed by Leah ProudLakota Gazan, and following a tradional Water Blessing there will be musical entertainment, including Glenn St. John, Jason Tuesday, Lakes and Pines, TWIN, and D-T MASSIF feat. T'ai Pu, and will conclude with our special guest speaker Clayton Thomas-Mueller.
All paddlers will be responsible for their own safety and will be required to wear life jackets and have bailing cans, a whistle and emergency rope.
All cyclists will be encouraged to wear helmets. The parade will be supported by the Winnipeg Police Service and there will be volunteer marshalls.
