Join us this September, as millions of us walk out of our homes and workplaces to join young people in the streets for the biggest global climate strike yet. Our house is on fire. The climate crisis is an emergency but we’re not acting like it. Invite your colleagues, friends, family, clubs, and community. We need everyone. Friday 20th September marks a day of international climate action and strikes, led by the student activist Greta Thunberg and the Fridays For Future movement. Transition New Mills are joining the strike and inviting all local people to take part in a 'Day of Positivity.’ We’re now able to announce the climate-positive activities we have planned throughout the day. Whether you join us for a single event or take part in several throughout the day, there’s something for everyone and we hope that people will get involved in as many of the activities as they can. It’s all about appreciating our natural environment, as well as positively joining together and socialising on the day of the climate strikes. 9.30AM / Yoga and Mindfulness in the Torrs / Meet at Archie Dress for the weather and stretch your way into the day in the beautiful surroundings of the Torrs. 11AM / Kids Nature Walk and Quiz / Meet at Archie Meet Jeanne for a short walk and quiz celebrating the best of the natural environment and climate-positive innovation in New Mills. 12.30PM / Family Picnic / High Lea Park Join us in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of High Lea Park for a community picnic in front of High Lea Hall. 2-4PM / Community Gardening / Torr Top Car Park The Incredible Edible team will be gardening at Torr Top car park - join in for some gentle gardening or just for a chat and to share experiences of growing food. Take away some plants or seeds to try out in your own growing space. 3-6PM / Bring and Share Event / The Prom, Market Street Everyone is invited to congregate on The Prom, Market Street, for a bring and share event and to show solidarity with all children and adults striking and protesting for climate. There will be a conversation tent, plant and food swap, music, activities, banners and more! 7.30PM / Green Drinks / Masons Arms After a busy day, all are welcome to celebrate with a drink or two at the Masons Arms. If you’d like to attend or take part, click ‘attending’ on the Facebook event (follow link) and share with all your friends and family in New Mills. And if you’ve got an idea for the day or an event you’d like to put on, please let us know! We'd love for as many people as possible to get involved.
