Shetland is participating in the Global Climate Strike on the 20th September, joining millions of other climate strikers around the world as we walk out of homes and workplaces to demand action on the climate catastrophe. Earlier this year, young climate strikers in the UK published an open letter asking adults to step up alongside them on Friday 20 September. Inspired by the Shetland youth strike in June, we are specifically calling on the Shetland Islands Council to declare a climate emergency - showing councillors that there's a strong call for this from the community and we stand in solidarity with the youth strikers!
The main event will see us gather at the Market Cross in Lerwick at 12pm on Friday 20th September, where we will remain until 2pm, speaking to each other about concerns, and raising public awareness of the climate impacts facing Shetland.
