Global Climate Strike

#ClimateStrike in Beverley

Friday, September 20, 10:00 AM
Meeting outside East Riding of Yorkshire County Hall
Cross Street
Beverley, England, HU17 9BA, United Kingdom
On the 19th of June 2019 in the East Riding of Yorkshire County Council meeting a Climate Emergency was proposed. This acknowledges that that world has currently got 11 years to turn the environment around before we exceed the tipping point of climate disaster. Countries, cities and towns across the UK and the world have been adopting these as this is NOT "business as usual". Hull, York, Leeds, Scarborough just to name the most local areas have announced a Climate Emergency. Sadly in this meeting the Conservatives (with the majority) rejected the motion, amended it to the point it no longer accepts there is any call for panic and then voted to pass this pathetic excuse for a "Climate Emergency"... The UN are holding a 'Climate Change Summit' on the 23rd of September 2019 and this is where big decisions are going to be made as to whether we secure our futures. Greta Thunberg, who founded and runs the Students Strike for Climate across the world on Fridays has called for a mass strike of the young and the old across the world to make a statement to our governments! In Beverley (were ERYC are based) we will strike for our climate! Not just as part of the global warning sign, but to show the county councillors that the people they represent want to protect their planet! That we want the 'Climate Emergency Motion' to be amended to its original proposal! WHERE: Meeting outside East Riding of Yorkshire County Hall (opposite Mod Hair and Beauty) WHEN: 10:00am - 20th of September 2019 WHO: EVERYONE! The planet belongs to all of us and we all have to speak for change! Bring you voice in the form of a picket/banner. WHY: Nothing will change if we don't strike for it!
