9月20日金曜日、私たちは世界のリーダー達に、地球の温暖化が緊急事態だということを認識し、「環境正義」に向けて大々的なアクションを取るよう呼びかけるために、名古屋の街をマーチします！「環境正義」とは、弱い立場の人たちが環境破壊の犠牲にならないようにすることです。
9月20日は、国連の緊急気候サミットの直前です。世界中で、そして日本の各地で、地球のためのマーチが行われます。「環境正義」を求めて、世界中が団結するのです。サミットに集まるリーダーたちに、私たちの声を届けるチャンスです。
パリ協定で、地表温度の上昇を1.5度に抑えることが決められました。それ以上の気温上昇は、人類と地球上の人類以外の生物を危険に及ぼすような気候変動を引き起こします。国連によると、それを防ぐのにあと12年もありません。2030年までにまず、二酸化炭素排出量を45％削減しなければなりません。しかし今のままでは、この目標達成は程遠く、パリ協定で定められた目標よりも高い気温になることが予想されます。
私たちが地球温暖化に対し大きな行動を起こさない限り、多くの動物種が絶滅し、生物多様性が失われ、食料は不足し、貧困は深刻になり、生き残りをかけて世界の人々が移動するようになるでしょう。異常気象は、今よりも顕著になるでしょう。
気候科学者達は、何十年も前から地球温暖化の影響を警告してきました。もう問題は、無視できない所まで達しました。”今”アクションを起こさなければなりません。世界のリーダー達に、私たちのたった一つの故郷である地球の環境を守ることを最優先するよう訴えましょう。私たちは、子供たちやその先の世代の未来を守っていく責任があります。

On Friday, September 20th, we will be marching though the streets of Nagoya to demand climate justice from our leaders, calling on them to recognize global heating as an emergency, and to take significant action against it. On September 20th, cities all around the world, including various cities across Japan, will have their own march for the planet, and thus the world will be united in demanding climate justice. This day also comes just ahead of the UN’s emergency climate summit, so it is an opportune time for us to make our voices heard.
According to the UN, we have less than 12 years to limit temperature rise to no more than 1.5 degrees C, as per the Paris Agreement, in order to prevent irreversible climate change that would threaten humanity and all other living creatures on this planet. Carbon emissions need to be cut by 45% by 2030 in order to meet this goal. However, currently we are nowhere near meeting this goal, and temperatures are expected to rise far beyond Paris Agreement levels. Without taking drastic steps against global heating, we will be facing major global problems such as animal extinction, a lack of biodiversity, food shortage, increased poverty, increased global migration, and more extreme weather, among others.
Climate scientists have been warning us about the effects of climate heating for decades. We are at a point where we cannot ignore it anymore and we need to take action NOW. We need our leaders to prioritize protecting our environment, our only home, and safeguarding the future of our children and future generations.
