Accra, 233, Ghana
350 Ghana Reducing our Carbon will mobilise about 150 young people to embark on a March from the Ghana Institute of Journalism to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly of Ghana, to present a petition to the Accra Mayor. The petition would among other things demand for Mayor to commit to ensuring the government initiate a policy that would shift the energy mix in all private and public schools in Accra to 100% renewable by 2022 as part of government strategy of making the nation’s energy mix 10% renewable by 2030. After the march we hope that government will appreciate mobilisation power of young people and start implementing policies that will drastically increase the use of renewable energy in schools as well as other sectors. 350 Ghana Reducing our Carbon would draw participants from the following organisations and institutions, University of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Journalism, over five basic and senior high schools, and members of the CS Platform on SDGs. Members of the press would be invited to cover the march and copies of the petition would be given out to them to ensure a large audience are informed about our demands. The event would also be streamed live on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Join us this September, as millions of us walk out of our homes and workplaces to join young people in the streets for the biggest global climate strike yet. Our house is on fire. The climate crisis is an emergency but we’re not acting like it. Invite your colleagues, friends, family, clubs, and community. We need everyone.
