The Niger Delta Region is situated within the southern part of Nigeria known to play host to the wealth of the nation because of its richness in crude oil which accounts for over 70% of the revenue generated in Nigeria economy. However, it is sad to note that communities in the Niger Delta region are among the poorest in our nation because of environmental pollution, climate change, marginalization and lack of electricity. Today, majority of Nigerian women especially in rural communities cannot walk freely when the streets become dark and appealing to predators who harass and abuse women in the shades of the dark. Lack of electricity access to rural markets has limited the full realization of the economic potentials of many Ogoni communities and stifled businesses. 60% of the operating cost of SMEs largely owned by women and youths are burnt on running noisy and polluting fuel generators. This project will help to power up the women market in kaani community with 100% renewable energy sources thereby reducing carbon emission generated from fossil products around the market environ. The project will also organize stakeholders meeting and community rally to launch the power up Ogoni campaign. The power up Ogoni campaign for climate solution aims to work together with grassroots women and youth leaders to launch the power up Ogoni campaign, power down shell and fossil fuels project in Nigeria.
