On the 13th and 14th February the world will come together to tackle the fossil fuel industry. We will be standing in solidarity with the victims of the flooding Malawi and Mozambique, and the millions of people who are fighting the consequences of our changing climate every day. Water scarcity across both Africa and the Arab world is increasing. Northern Kenya is experiencing its worst drought in 60 years creating climate refugees who are displaced from their homes and land. Food price shocks follow drought and flooding.
Yet again it is those who have done the least to cause climate change who are paying the ultimate price, but less water and rising food prices will affect everyone one of us. It is time for people of conscience to demand that their banks, universities and faith-based communities divest and stop future investments in fossil fuels.
