Swansea and Gower Green Party are joining in with a country-wide week of action to highlight corporate investment in fossil fuels – join us on Saturday 29th at 2pm outside Barclays on Oxford St, Swansea city centre!
Barclays have the second largest investment in fossil fuels of all UK banks, with £15.6 billion invested globally. The bank owns Third Energy, the company which has recently been given the green light to frack in North Yorkshire, despite local opposition. Here in South Wales we know there are similar companies interested in fracking locally.
With the Paris Climate Agreement about to come into force, and Halloween approaching, it’s time to spook big investors like Barclays out of their fossil fuel habit. We know that widespread, sustained pressure on investors – who value what we think of them – is one of the most effective ways to encourage them to divest their money from fossil fuels and back clean energy instead.
Bring fossil-free or anti-fracking posters and banners if you can! This is a peaceful, friendly action – the intention is to spook Barclays HQ, not the branch staff! Some resources are available here: http://gofossilfree.org/uk/stop-barclays-fracking/. Looking forward to seeing you there!
