Frackenstein's Monster pays a visit to Hastings this Halloween, exposing the horrors of fracking and its biggest UK investor: Barclays Bank...
Local activists Don’t Frack With Sussex are staging a Halloween themed anti-fracking protest outside Barclays bank in Hastings town Centre on Saturday 29th October at 12pm.
As part of a UK-wide action coordinated by Friends of the Earth, Don’t Frack With Sussex, who were responsible for the recent ‘Frack Off’ protest at the Long Man of Wilmington and a cake themed petition at one of Amber Rudd MP’s surgeries, are protesting the leading bank’s investment in the fracking industry.
The bank are owners of Third Energy, have who recently were given approval to frack in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, despite thousands of local objections.
Lead by Dr ‘Frackstein’ and his Monster, our spooky group intent to give Barclays a fright.
A 12pm photo call and interviews will happen on site with local press; and we have have arranged a meeting with the bank manager at 12:30pm to hand in a personal letter. We also plan to engage Barclay’s customers outside the bank, drawing attention to the horrors of fracking, and Barclays as key players in UK fracking and investors of £15.6 billion in corporate loans and equities in fossil fuel projects globally.
To stay within safe levels of global warming, 80% of fossil fuels need to stay in the ground, and yet companies like Barclays are helping bring this dangerous experimental method to life to get even more out of the earth. This undemocratic nightmare is already becoming a reality in North Yorkshire and Lancashire.
It’s unsafe, unclean and unfair on local communities, and Barclays are helping create this Monster.
