Saturday, September 21, 4:30 PM Meet at the Corner in front of the Newark Amtrak Station Parking Lot (on 896 across from the Girl Scouts and Bob Carpenter Center)In conjunction with Draw the Line Day of action and Delaware Sea Level Rise Awareness Week we'll be bringing attention to and drawing the line at a crime against the climate right here in our community --the import and storage of the toxic tar sands from Canada and Bakken Shale oil from North Dakota (the same stuff that decimated the small town of Lac Megantic, Canada when a train derailed and several cars ignited and exploded, killing 47) right in Newark next to several residential neighborhoods, a kids park and UD campus. As if the tar sands practically in people's backyard isn't enough, UD (who purchased the former Chrysler site right next to the rail yard) has now granted a 75 year lease to The Data Centers LLC, who want to build a massive 248MW Natural Gas Power Plant ON the UD "Star Campus"! Meet at the front of the Newark Amtrak parking lot (near the end of the bridge on rt 868/South College, across from the Girl Scouts building) at 4:20pm and we'll walk down a block or two and stand near the UD Star Campus Sign/ Across from the Bob and the UD Football stadium to display our signs and banners to all of the passing car & foot traffic on their way to the 6pm game. Tar Sands banners, blank poster board and markers will be provided by the Delaware Sierra Club. We'll also have flyers on the tar sands trains in Newark and the Power Plant to distribute to people who want more info. Bring your own signs if you want about drawing the line at power plants on campus or how [despite the claims of The Data Centers LLC] fracked gas is not "green" or "renewable" but a dangerous fossil fuel!
