ANZ: Drop Denniston

Wānaka: ANZ Drop Denniston

Wednesday, May 28, 4:30 PM
Wānaka ANZ
58 Ardmore Street
Wānaka, Otago, 9305, New Zealand
Stand with us to hold ANZ accountable for financing climate destruction. We'll be gathering outside the ANZ branch on Ardmore Street, Wānaka at 5 30pm to peacefully demand that they cut ties with Bathurst Resources — the company planning to mine 20 million tonnes of coal from the precious Denniston Plateau. Everyone is welcome to join for banner waving, leafleting and petitioning. This peaceful demonstration aims to engage passersby and ANZ customers about the bank’s role in enabling one of Aotearoa’s most dangerous fossil fuel projects — one that would destroy conservation land and unleash emissions on the scale of NZ’s entire annual output. It’s time for ANZ to drop Bathurst — and all fossil fuel expansion clients. Read more at 350.org.nz/coal. See you there.

Rules:

✨ Kaupapa Agreement for This Action

This action is grounded in creativity, nonviolence, and community power. Together, we're calling out ANZ for backing Bathurst Resources' destructive coal plans on the Denniston Plateau — and building a better future.

At this action, we agree to:

  • Stay public, creative, and non-disruptive — gathering outside the ANZ branch without blocking doors or customer access.
  • Use chalk, costumes, props, flyers, and storytelling to engage the public and invite them to join our action/campaign.
  • Treat everyone — including the public, bank staff, and police — with dignity, respect, and nonviolence.
  • Protect our campaign’s reputation: no paint, glue, or property damage; no occupying or disrupting the bank interior.
  • Keep the focus on ANZ’s role in funding climate destruction, while staying safe and welcoming.

This kaupapa keeps us safe, effective, and powerful. Thank you for standing together for climate justice!
