Wednesday, April 22, 12:00 PM Lawns infront of the QuadrangleSydney, 2050, AustraliaYou'll be able to see the location and contact the event host after you RSVP.
Earlier this year, the University of Sydney announced it would cut emissions from its share portfolio by 20% over three years. We think thats great, it shows that the university is concerned about its climate impact and is reflexive to the calls of students. However, we know that divestment is about more than an individual institution's emissions, its real power lies in taking away the social licence of the fossil fuel industry to freely wreck our planet. A decision by the University of Sydney to divest would be a major blow to the fossil fuel industry's stranglehold over our democracy. Its a goal that is in sight, all we need is your support to tell the university to take the next step, Divest!
At mid-day we will be converging on the front lawns of our most iconic building, the Quadrangle and assembling a sea of Divestment Orange wind turbines, symbols of hope for a future that has given fossil fuels the kick. Come and plant a wind turbine, enjoy a picnic with us and sign our petition to the university to divest.
